Interrogating dance improvisation as a form of performance, this book gathers fourteen conversations conducted informally by Agnès Benoit with dancers/improvisers. These artists, most of them teachers, have contributed to the development of contemporary dance. They look back on their careers and share the issues at stake in their work processes: between choreographic writing and instantaneous composition, awareness of the moment, responsibility for what is being shown, relationship to the context, self-censorship, habit and desire to explore unknown situations.
